I FELL IN LOVE: COME WITH ME TO MEXICO CITY
Every time I opened my feed, met my friends for brunch, or found a new brand or image I was in love with---all arrows, signs, conversations and dialogues were pointing to Mexico City. I had travelled quite a bit to Mexico but had never made the trip to CDMX--but my obsession kept growing and I finally went in 2020 with a group of friends--some who had been many times. Before I headed South I sent out a group text, and several dozen DMs to brands I admire from Mexico, asking "Does anyone know a photog, stylist or group of creatives I could work with on a project in Mexico City?" After several of my besties responded and connected me to different friends, creatives or points of inspiration, I was connected with Salvador Fernandez. After several zooms he set to work on creating a team and project that would execute all of my dreams for our first photo project in Mexico City. We have now just completed our third project together.
There is something very magical about Mexico City that I haven't quite seen in other major cities...and I travel non stop. In the last 8 weeks I have been in Korea, Toronto, Copenhagen, NYC, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Atlanta and China---there is just something tangible about Mexico City that sets it apart---the people that make up the pulsing city and the insane amount of passion they have for where they live, the food scene is wildly surprising at every turn, and the park system of the city can turn a quiet stroll into a sensory overload. In one word, I would say the city is overwhelming---and I mean that in the best way possible. It simply overwhelms you with beauty, with sound, with inspiration and most of all love.
Due to my hectic travel schedule I always find myself going Mexico City without proper planning, or organizing where I want to go----and this city is perfect for that. At once you are swept away by the beautiful encasement doors and windows, the street style of the young fashion set, the thoughtful and diverse retail outposts and the movement of the city. Despite its insane size, there is a calm to it, a rhythm and a pace that seems poetic. I love being swept away by the magic, and experiencing as much as I can on each trip.
Since my first trip I have fallen in love with Mexico City---with the simple pleasures and the shocking differences I see compared to anywhere else I go. With our newest project, Salvador, dove deeper into my request of capturing the energy of the street, and the movement of everyday people---while featuring my favorite styles from our FW23 collection. We began shooting at 5am and wrapped at 4pm as we were pelted by a pounding rain. We quickly changed up concepts for the final look and created magic as the heavy storm poured in---hushing the city with giant raindrops and crashing thunder. I hope you enjoy this project and I feel so lucky to be connected to the talented creatives I have met and continued to work with in Mexico over these past years. Thank you for the magic.
